Bankruptcy For A Financial Fresh Start

Founded in 1980, Ibold & O’Brien has been a strong legal resource in Northeast Ohio for more than 40 years. Our attorneys have been helping individuals and businesses throughout Northeast Ohio through the complexities of bankruptcy.

Since new bankruptcy laws came into effect in 2005, it has been even more important than ever to hire an experienced bankruptcy lawyer. We are committed to protecting the rights, interests and property of businesses and individuals that file for bankruptcy.

Experienced Ohio Bankruptcy Lawyers

As our law firm offers Ohioans guidance in filing Chapter 7, Chapter 11 and Chapter 13 bankruptcies, the 2005 bankruptcy law requires us to disclose that we are a debt relief agency; we help people file for bankruptcy relief under the Bankruptcy Code. For many bankruptcy filers, the new bankruptcy laws have only minimally affected their filing eligibility.

We regularly handle bankruptcy for businesses and individuals, including the following:

  • Chapter 7 bankruptcy, also called personal bankruptcy or liquidation bankruptcy, is for individuals and small businesses seeking to eliminate their debt through liquidation. Personal Chapter 7 bankruptcies were most affected by the new bankruptcy law. However, a majority of people will still be able to file for Chapter 13 bankruptcy.
  • Chapter 13 bankruptcy, also known as wage-earner bankruptcy, provides individuals an opportunity to consolidate and repay their debts under the supervision of a bankruptcy trustee. Some of the debts that can be consolidated under a Chapter 13 bankruptcy include mortgage payments, auto payments, student loans, credit cards and any other unsecured debts.
  • Chapter 11 bankruptcy, or business bankruptcy, provides businesses, including sole proprietors, partnerships, and corporations, the opportunity to reorganize their business operations while they negotiate with creditors. The objective of a Chapter 11 bankruptcy filing is to reduce debt and allow a business to continue operations.

Regardless of which chapter of the bankruptcy code our clients are filing under, the team at Ibold & O’Brien is committed to providing compassionate legal advice and representation and helping individuals and businesses move into the future with a clean slate.
